Wong Tai always had an interest in Kung Fu and began his training in Chinese Martial Arts at a young age. When Luk Ah Choy came to Canton, Wong Tai went to learn the famous Hung Gar style under him. He was taught all that his teacher knew, mastering the Tiger Crane system. Wong Tai, in turn passed his knowledge on to his famous son Wong Kei Ying, who also had the good fortune to train under Luk Ah Choy.

Wong Tai’s involvement in Hung Gar Kuen is often overshadowed by his famous grandson, the legendary folk hero Wong Fei Hung. However, it is important to note that he introduced the art of Hung Gar in to the Wong family, a tradition which lasted for three generations.
